Internship Opportunities

Students pursuing an education in the field of exercise science will have the opportunity to apply for the Madonna ProActive Internship program. The completion and fulfillment of the following prerequisites will be required: Student shall have attained junior or senior standing status. Be currently enrolled as a full-time/part-time student and have declared exercise science or other related course of study. Student shall have completed and passed the following courses: Anatomy, Human Physiology, Biomechanics, First-Aid and CPR (certified), Nutrition. Student shall have coordinated and received approval from the Exercise Science Department faculty.

Applicants must have fulfilled all prerequisites to be considered. A completed application and an interview with the Madonna ProActive Fitness Manager will be the basis for the selection process. Selection of interns will be collectively based on each applicant's past performance as a student, their willingness to accept responsibility, and their acceptance to fulfill expectations as outlined in the following section. Selection of recipients will be determined by Madonna ProActive.

As an Intern with Madonna ProActive, the recipient will be expected to:

Possess those personal qualities which are important to the success of Madonna ProActive, its athletes and staff. Those traits most discerned are an energetic personality, maturity, willingness to take on and accept responsibility, and the initiative to learn.

Follow all policies, procedures, rules and regulations of Madonna ProActive.

Accept primary responsibilities assigned to him/her by the staff of Madonna ProActive, and carry out any inherent duties.

Completion of an internship program with Madonna ProActive will be determined by hours worked.

Objectives of Internship: The intern will assist in providing the highest level of customer service to all ProActive members and guests under the supervision of ProActive staff.

Circulates and monitors the fitness equipment areas insuring the safe and effective use by members and guests.

Provides facility tours to all new members, introducing them to the facility, policies and proper use of equipment, and to other special programs and services (group exercise, aquatics, personal training, etc.).

Serves as a customer service representative and helps clients with any needs they have. Opens and closes the facility according to the facility opening and closing established checklist.

Insures members are aware of and follow policies and procedures in all areas of the center.

Supports and cross-sells all ProActive departments, programs and services.

Maintains active involvement in all ProActive special events and programs.

Takes instruction from supervisor to perform other functions as assigned in order to achieve the goals of ProActive.

Is proficient on the function and use of all pieces of exercise equipment.

Ensures the fitness floor and equipment areas are clean and free of clutter and obstructions.

Keeps equipment clean by wiping down upholstery and lubricates equipment according to standards.

Will provide light maintenance to broken equipment immediately or report to supervisor for repair.

Conducts regular walk-throughs of the locker rooms and picks up towels and helps to insure a clean environment. Keeps gymnasium balls on racks, replaces basketball nets, and supervises any issues as needed with members in the gym.
